A Russian family needs at least 74 thousand rubles to survive

In the presence of children, the minimum requirements increase to 100 thousand rubles.

According to the RBC publication, citing the results of a comprehensive monitoring of the living conditions of Russians conducted by Rosstat, the average family in 2024 needed at least 73.9 thousand rubles per month to make ends meet. For an urban family, the amount needed to buy basic necessities was 74.2 thousand rubles, for rural households — 72.5 thousand. In the absence of children in the family, Russians needed to have a monthly income of 64.2 thousand rubles, if available, this amount increased to 99.9 thousand.

The average income for making ends meet for a large family last year averaged 114.2 thousand rubles. Russians with disabled children needed 101.2 thousand per month to support their families. In 2024, the proportion of families who could easily afford to pay for all household needs for the first time exceeded a third and amounted to 34.8 percent.

At the same time, every 17th household (5.8 percent) faced serious difficulties in this matter. Rosstat has been conducting such observations every two years since 2016. Back then, 15.4 percent of Russian families could easily make ends meet, while 17.4 percent faced great difficulties.
